today is one of the most humbling days of my life…
i do not quite know how to proceed with this posting. i am at a loss as to how to express my feelings: the sense of being overwhelmed and flooded by realizations of how much humanity the indonesians (those that i have been priveleged to know) have and how much they go out of their way to make one feel what it is like to be a human being.
i have shared countless dinners with some of them, learned that their warmth is as hot as the sambal they love to eat, been nursed from sickness by them, been called iblis and setan manis in good and clean fun, saw tons of movies with them, spent an entire sunday afternoon watching grey’s anatomy with them and still they never cease to amaze me.
they have become, in a sense, a family to me - together with my filipino family here - and i do not quite know how to express this burst of gratitude i have for them in my heart.
i do know they try their best for people. that whatever dreams they may have for themselves, they never fail to reach out and touch other people’s lives.
they may not be able to understand why i was suddenly felt compelled to write this posting (which i myself do not know which direction is going). i do know that today and tonight, i have found myself reflecting on how much they really care and how much they let you feel that they do care: whether it be for another person, for each other, for their families, even for their country.
whether they realize it or not, in their own little ways, they have tried to make a difference. and in their own little ways, they have.
