"it’s time to take out your winter clothes again," dina chirps to kazuyo and me yesterday in the room.
the temperature had indeed gone down remarkably these days. even when the weather forecast says it’s going to be sunny and 16 degrees, that numbing cold in your hands and feet says otherwise. you know that winter is fast approaching and time will never stand still for you even if it meant coming home.
how easily time flew. i have been reminded of these over and over as i sorted through the hundreds of pictures i have accumulated over the past year. i have tried to sort them out by the season and still, it never ceases to amaze me how the colors of den haag changed so quickly. the landscapes i pass by are the same but they have never really been constant. they remind me that time is passing like the people i have met here.
we move in patches of colors. sometimes, we were never aware that the hues have turned yellow, brown, white and green. until we see someone leaving and going back, leaving and going back. like the ebbs and flow of the tide or the varying shades of blues, greys and whites of the clouds. we meet people, seeing them, finding them there and suddenly we realize that they are leaving.
we try not to stop the hands of time simply because we know we cannot. our spirits drop as one by one, we are blown off by the wind like leaves or grass. some of us know where we are going to land and the people who will catch or meet us when we get there. some of us are really just getting by, lost and letting ourselves simply float and be carried away by like leaves fallen into the canals. still, we exist…
